In the context of the 2011-2012 financial programme (€2.8 billion) of the European Union for funding research and innovation in ICT, this dinner debate aims at discussing the policy priorities in this area which plays a decisive role in Europe’s future prosperity and wellbeing. Taking place at the same time as the ICT 2010 Conference of the European Commission, this timely event will help participants gain a better understanding of the latest trends in Information and Communication Technologies and the key elements to promote innovation in Europe.
Are we on the right track with the FP7? What does work? What does not work? How can we close the gap between research and innovation? These are among the main questions which will be addressed during the event.

Cloud Computing, an emerging and quickly spreading technology which is transforming the way information is provided and accessed through the Internet, has become a widely-used term to designate and encompass a wide range of new service delivery models.
This breakfast debate will provide an overview of what cloud computing is about and its current and future applications. The discussion will also address the regulatory framework which is needed to foster cloud computing in Europe (with a focus on privacy/security issues) and what the EU R&D priorities in cloud computing should be.
