Open call announcement: cordis.europa.eu/fp7/competitive-calls_en.html
The 2nd BonFIRE Open Call for experiments and a new Cloud infrastructure provider has just been opened (as of February 1, 2012) with a total funding of 600K EUR.
The call closure is March 7th 17:00 Brussels time.
The BonFIRE (Building service testbeds for Future Internet Research and Experimentation) project is designing, building and operating a multi-site cloud-based FIRE facility to support research across applications, services and systems targeting in particular but not exclusively the research community on Internet of Services.
BonFIRE is the first multi-cloud infrastructure mainly based on European open source technology (Open Nebula), with a Cloud Broker that manages the access to several multiple Cloud sites by means of an standard API (based on OCCI specification) to push for interoperability and avoid the lock-in. We have heterogeneity (different open source virtualization techniques Xen, KVM) in the sites that we deal with which enriches the research scenarios.
BonFIRE facility with 5 Cloud sites is in operation and is open for researchers from both academic and industrial organizations. BonFIRE enables the concept of research by experimentation or discover by doing.
