Support, Dates and Location

As all previous FIA events, the FIA Dublin is an EU Presidency associated event, supported jointly with the European Commission. The Irish Presidency will host the next FIA conference as a three-days event, starting on Wednesday, 8th  May 2013 and ending on Friday, 10th May 2013. The location will be Dublin and the booked venue is the undefinedHelix DCU Conference Center, Collins Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9. The organising committee on the Irish side is led by Willie Donnelly, from the undefinedTelecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG), based at the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). A dedicated website for the event is available at www.fi-dublin.eu  Workshops and other collocated events are organised on 6th and 7th May 2013.

Scope of the Conference

FIA Dublin focuses on how European Future Internet research and innovation support EU's competitiveness and enable a new wave of technologies at the eve of Horizon 2020. 

FIA Dublin is framed around two major lines:

  • European competitiveness: towards a strong, diversified and competitive EU Future Internet industrial base, with high innovation performance in global markets
  • European research & innovation: towards a more effective exploitation of EU Future Internet research results from industry, academia and research institutes.

Format and Layout

FIA Dublin is a three-day event:

1)      One high-profile day: “Future Internet accelerates Innovation” organised around matters of technology pull, technology push and market take-up of Future Internet technologies

2)      Two days 12 working sessions with four parallel streams in a 90-120' time slot, split in three strands:

  • Technology makers: how to enable a strong EU Internet technologies supply industry?
  • Innovation leaders: how to stimulate a strong demand of EU Internet technologies?
  • Entrepreneurship pathways: how to transfer EU Internet technologies research and innovation into business and start-ups?

Welcome and Opening: Mario Campolargo, Director Net Futures, European Commission

Future Internet Public-Private Partnership: The Future Internet Public Private Partnership is a research and development initiative which takes FP7 research into innovation, notably in the need for strong cooperation among the participants and that it envisages results closer to the market. Today the Future Internet PPP moves from development into delivery mode!
This session will focus on the presentation of the current technology results: the Generic Enablers and the Open Innovation Lab, a place where developers will be able to use the technology to build innovative services and applications. It will show as well how this technology can be applied in some usage areas such as energy efficiency or manufacturing to create smarter business processes.
Finally it will glimpse into the future when SMEs and web entrepreneurs will be able to use the technology to create crazy applications nobody thought of…
